You Have Value. You Have Purpose. And You Have Infinite Potential.
Hello, we are progressing through my blog series
10 Things I Would Tell ANYONE
and I am psyched out of my mind to say to YOU:
#3: You Have Value. You Have Purpose. And You Have Infinite Potential.
Don’t dismiss me on this one because this has the potential to really pump you up! (See what I did there? Yeah yeah, Rock, everyone sees it. Alright then.)
I never believed this before. It took a spiritual change in me to really drive it home. But even before that, when I met Rachel and we started a family, I started to believe, hey, maybe there actually is some reason I’m here after all, something I’m here to accomplish. This feeling has grown and gelled in me. Today I 100% believe that each and every one of us has tremendous intrinsic value. I believe that everyone has purpose, things to get done in their lifetime. And I have come to realize that inside of me is an infinite amount of potential, there, waiting to be tapped at any time. If it’s in me, it’s in everyone. It’s in you!
Don’t tune out. “Don’t miss this!” Because if you don’t feel the way I do or you don’t believe what I’m saying right now, I want that to change. I want to change your life!
I’ve done a lot of things over the years. I’ve worked a lot of different jobs. I’ve dabbled in a number of interests and hobbies but never committed to investing any real time or effort in them. I’ve been more of a spectator of life rather than an active participant. More “surviving” versus “living.” If you know me, you already know all the reasons why; if you don’t know me, well, it takes up a big part of a whole book so we’re not going to get sidetracked here!
The point is, over the past several years my life has undergone tremendous change. Most of it initiated by me or set into motion on purpose. I’m still who I was but I would argue I’m a much better version of who I was before. But more to that point, I’ve seen that I’m capable of so much more than I have done in the past. I know it’s true because I’ve done it now. I’ve lived it. I can’t believe the things I’ve done, the things I’ve committed to, the things I’ve produced, the outcomes I’ve seen. It’s nothing short of miraculous.
It’s all convinced me that I have purpose. There’s a reason for me to be here, and I’m doing it even now – and there could be more to come! I see now that I have value, too, if not to a lot of others than at least to a few (no egoism1 here). I’m needed. I’m wanted. And to witness my own creativity and participation in things that I never thought I would do, I can now – and only now – clearly see a deep, deep well of potential. Potential for what? Literally anything. I’ve learned that if you have an interest, you can take a baby step and learn a little bit, and then repeat, and then repeat. And even about things where you automatically think, “Oh, I could never do that,” I’ve learned sometimes it’s just do the first step, and then figure out the next and then do that, and repeat.
If I can do these things, so can you. There is other evidence, too. We happen to live in an age with a window to the world. We bear witness every day to individuals literally anywhere on the globe doing fun, astonishing, amazing, incredible things! Just open Instagram. Be inspired! I am!
The well is infinite. We can accomplish literally anything. If we could all get along for two minutes, humanity could have world peace. But that’s a problem I can’t fix with a pep talk. On a local level though, I can tell you, yes you, that you can accomplish literally anything. Set your goal. Determine the smaller steps to reach that goal. Start with the first step. Surround yourself with people who will have your back and encourage you every step of the way. I’ll promise you right now, I’m rooting for you!
If I can do (fill in the blank), so can you.
Now, what I’ve written above, that’s for everyone regardless of spiritual belief. But I want to acknowledge the spiritual arguments for my topic also. If only to say, look, the following are true. If you don’t know this or haven’t taken it to heart in a while, here’s a reminder.
– God loves you. That is the very definition of value. You have value. Intrinsically. What a wonderful word to use here.
– God created you purposefully, and has given you purpose. If you believe that, you know you are here to do amazing things!
– God equips you with infinite potential. He has equipped you and continues to equip you for everything you encounter in life. Can you see yourself dipping into that well? What could you accomplish with the talents and tools God has given you?
If you got to the end of this entry and you’re thinking “Rock is acting cultish” or “Rock is all Pollyanna-ish2again,” I’m just glad you got the end of this entry. Because I mean it. These are things I’ve learned about myself. And that was enough to make me believe them about you, about everyone.
The world is your oyster. I believe in you. Go get ‘em, tiger.
Your friend,
